Apple has started rolling out iOS 26.1, the first major update to its latest operating system. Unveiled alongside the iPhone 17 series in September, iOS 26 introduces Liquid Glass, a “new translucent material that reflects and refracts its surroundings.”
Available for iPhone 11 series and newer devices, iOS 26.1 fixes issues pertaining to the Liquid Glass user interface and also includes a solution to turn off the Lock Screen gestures. Here are some of the most useful changes coming with iOS 26.1
The biggest change iOS 26.1 brings to the table is a new setting that lets you customise the look of Liquid Glass. Located under the Display and Brightness section in the Settings app, the new update gives you the option to switch between ‘Clear’ and ‘Tinted’. While the former is a more transparent version of Liquid Glass that we know, the latter increases the opacity, which further boosts contrast and readability.
Apple also added a toggle that lets users turn off the Lock Screen gesture that launches the Camera app. The new setting aims to fix one of the most annoying iPhone bugs that causes the camera app to automatically open when the device is kept in a pocket. Aptly named “Lock Screen Swipe to Open Camera”, the new option is located under the Camera section in the Settings app.
The tech giant’s AI suite – Apple Intelligence and AirPods’ new Live Translation now support more languages, enabling more users to make use of the feature. Apple also included a new toggle that lets you disable the haptic feedback when a call is connected or disconnected. Another small but usefuil change includes a new Apple Music gesture which lets you swipe the song title to skip tracks.
To download and install iOS 26.1, open the Settings app and tap on General. Now, choose the option named Software Update and tap on the Update Now button that appears. Apple may ask you to reboot your iPhone after the update.
