Meta has added three new features to Instagram, one being “Repost”. This new feature lets users repost their favourite Reels and Posts directly to their feed for followers to see, while providing credit to the original content creator.
What is Instagram’s new reposting feature, and how does it help creators?
Instagram users had two options to share the content created by others –– they could either share it to their Stories or send them to friends via Direct Messages. With the Repost option, this has changed. Now, every reposted content by the user will appear in a dedicated “Reposts” tab on the user’s profile, making it easier to track and revisit shared content. The tab functions similar to how the tagged photos tab operates.
Creators benefit significantly when their content is reposted, as their username stays visible and the repost links back to the original post. This provides their work with organic exposure to new audiences outside their follower base. Essentially, a repost acts as a recommendation, helping content reach a wider audience without the need for paid promotion.
How does the repost feature work?
- Repost button (two arrows in a square) is available under the content (Reels and Posts).
- Users will have the option to add a comment or a note for your Repost.
- Once done, the piece of content shows up under the Reposts tab on the user’s profile and in their followers.
With the help of this new tool, users can now more easily select and distribute content, whether it be educational, amusing, or inspirational.
The other feature Meta introduced on Instagram is Instagram Map, which has been available on the platform on Snapchat for a while. With this feature, users can let a select set of friends know where they were last seen. The user can view posts from fascinating locations and their locations.
The third feature, a Reels’ Friends page, was also introduced by Meta. This feature lets users look at public content their friends have interacted with and receive recommendations from Blends they have joined.
