Samsung is officially launching the Z TriFold, the much-anticipated trifold foldable. On December 12, it will make its debut in South Korea and the US launch is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
The device has an inward-folding design that is supposed to protect the primary display, and Samsung says that the “easy opening and closing” folding mechanism has been engineered with an alarm that informs the user if it is folded incorrectly.
Samsung is using a titanium Armour FlexHinge with two different-sized hinges that function together with a dual-rail framework. The company claims that the new design offers a smoother, more stable fold despite the variable weight across each display, besides increased longevity due to the inclusion of a “thin piece of metal” that protects the folding mechanism.
The TriFold features a 10-inch diagonal inner screen with a resolution of 2160 x 1584 and an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 120 Hz to 1 Hz, allowing for substantial screen real estate. It operates Samsung’s DeX environment in standalone mode without needing a secondary display, supporting three vertically aligned apps simultaneously.
The external display is a 6.5-inch, 1080p screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio, resembling the Z Fold 7’s exterior. The TriFold consists of three panels, each with varying thickness – the centre panel is the thickest at 4.2 mm, equipped with a USB-C port; the thinnest panel is 3.9 mm and includes a physical SIM tray; and the other panel is 4.0 mm thick. Unlike Huawei’s Mate XT, which uses a Z-fold design and incorporates part of the inner screen when folded, the TriFold’s sides fold inward over the centre panel.
The TriFold measures 12.9mm thick when folded, making it 4.7mm thicker than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and slightly thicker than the Z Fold 7 at 8.9mm, but closer in size to the Z Fold 6 at 12.1mm.
Comparatively, it is nearly the same in size and weight as Huawei’s Mate XT, being marginally thicker at 12.9mm against the XT’s 12.8mm and heavier at 309 grams compared to the XT’s 298 grams. The back panel utilises a ceramic-glass fibre-reinforced polymer for enhanced durability against cracks. Its hinges feature a dual-rail design with titanium housing for added strength.

The TriFold has an IP48 rating, indicating it is fully water-resistant but not dust-tight. It incorporates three rear cameras – a 200-megapixel wide-angle, a 12-megapixel ultrawide, and a 10-megapixel telephoto, along with a 10-megapixel selfie camera on both the cover and inner screens.
Both screens house their respective batteries, which contribute to a total capacity of 5,600 mAh, powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset and 16GB of RAM. The previous Z Fold’s stylus support has been removed. However, Samsung has not revealed the TriFold’s pricing in Korea or the US.
