Online money gaming ban: Probo tells users to withdraw balance, here’s how to do it | Technology News

A week after the Centre dealt a decisive blow to India’s booming real-money gaming (RMG) industry, opinion trading platform Probo has asked its users to withdraw their remaining balances without delay.

The Gurugram-based company said that users need to complete their KYC (Know Your Customer) verification and withdraw any remaining funds in their in-app wallet promptly. “Probo reiterates that all of its users can withdraw their funds seamlessly. KYC completion is a mandatory step for processing withdrawals. Users who have not yet completed the process are urged to do so immediately through the app,” the RMG platform said in a press release on Tuesday, August 26.

Probo is among dozens of other RMG firms that were forced to shut down their paid operations almost overnight in response to the new The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, which was passed by the Parliament and received the President’s assent on Friday, August 22.

The Act imposes a blanket ban on all online money games irrespective of whether they are games of skill or chance. It also applies to offshore RMG companies whose services are accessible in India.

A disclaimer on Probo’s app now reads: “In light of recent developments, we have stopped all money gaming operations. We request you to withdraw your funds.” In addition to disabling its paid operations, the company has also stopped wallet recharges for now.

“User funds remain completely safe, and every withdrawal request will be honoured. We request our users to complete their KYC at the earliest to ensure smooth and timely processing of balance withdrawals. Our support teams are available round the clock to assist our users,” a Probo spokesperson told The Indian Express in a statement.

– Open the Probo app and click on the Wallet icon at the top left.
– Click on ‘Complete KYC to withdraw funds’ below the Winnings option.
– Tap to confirm that the provided PAN and bank details belong to you.
– The withdrawal will reflect in your bank account within 3 working days (except Saturday, Sunday, and any government holidays), as per Probo.

Probo will deduct a payment gateway fee of Rs 5 for every Rs 1,000 withdrawn by users. TDS will also be deducted if applicable, as per the company. It urges users to update the Probo app before initiating the withdrawal process. There is also a withdrawal limit of Rs 1,000 per transaction for those using the web version of the platform.

Probo falls in the category of opinion trading platforms, which would let users stake real-money on various topics including sports, current affairs, economics, entertainment, and more in real-time. However, most of these services have now been halted in India. The company is backed by prominent investors including Peak XV Partners (formerly Sequoia Capital), Elevation Capital, and Fundamentum Partnership.

It is unclear how Probo is repositioning itself to stay live under the new online gaming law. Other players in the RMG sector have wasted no time in overhauling their entire business model in the wake of the blanket ban on online money games. Dream11, the country’s biggest fantasy sports app and the Indian cricket team’s main jersey sponsor, also communicated to its employees that it will wind down its real money operations. It is reportedly launching a new gold loan app under a new service called Dream Money.

Winzo recently announced the launch of its platform in the United States. It is also turning to micro-dramas with the launch of its new platform called ‘ZO TV’. Other platforms such as Zupee, Probo, and Mobile Premier League (MPL) have also pivoted to free-to-play online social games to comply with the new law.
