Apple is known for being slow and careful to adopt new technology, especially when it comes to its main revenue source – the iPhone. But now, it looks like the Cupertino-based tech giant may be finally looking to reinvent the iPhone with three new models.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the first of the three new models – the iPhone 17 Air- is rumoured to be the company’s thinnest smartphone to date. As it turns out, the new model will replace the ‘Plus’ model and come in a “light blue” colourway.
Like the recently launched iPhone 16e, the iPhone 17 Air may also feature the company’s in-house developed modem and come with a rear single camera and come without a physical SIM card slot. However, like the Samsung Galaxy Edge, the iPhone 17 Air will most likely have a lower battery capacity than other models in the iPhone 17 series.
Gurman goes on to say that, next year, we may also see a book-style foldable iPhone like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and newly announced Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold. As it turns out, this model will only support eSIM and feature Touch ID instead of Face ID. On the hardware front, rumour has it that it will have Apple’s second-generation model and have a quad camera, making it the iPhone with the most cameras.
Internally known as “V68”, known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously stated that the foldable iPhones will have a crease-free design, which is something no phone manufacturer has been able to iron out.
Following this, in 2027, Gurman says Apple will finally be launching a flip-style foldable to commemorate the iPhone’s 20th anniversary. This phone is expected to feature an upgraded version of the current glass and flat side design Apple introduced back in 2020 with the iPhone 12 series. Rumour also has it that we will see a new design language, but considering Apple just completely redesigned the iPhone interface, we suggest you to take this information with a huge grain of salt.
The report also claims that we will soon see new Apple Watch models, an upgraded Vision Pro headset, new AirPods with heart-rate monitoring capabilities and new iPads with an M5 chipset.
