The AI startup was also reportedly working on a much cheaper Go plan, which was expected to be announced alongside GPT-5, but there are no signs of the pocket-friendly plan till now.

ChatGPT is quite popular amongst Indians, but other players like Perplexity AI and Google Gemini are offering access to their paid plans for free to customers and students. While Perplexity is giving away one year of free Pro access to Airtel users, Google’s premium Gemini AI plans come with some benefits, like additional cloud storage and services like YouTube Premium.

According to app intelligence firm Appfigures, ChatGPT has generated more than $2 billion in global consumer spending since its launch in May 2023. Compared to other AI chatbots like Claude, Copilot and Grok, ChatGPT has earned more than 30 times the combined lifetime spending of its rivals.
