Google unveils Pixel Watch 4, Pixel Buds Pro 2, and Pixel Buds 2a: What’s new? | Technology News


Google launched its latest lineup of wearables in the Made by Google event that took place in New York on Wednesday, August 20. The newly launched devices include Pixel Watch 4, Pixel Buds Pro 2, and Pixel Buds 2a. The devices sport unique designs and boast a host of features aimed at enhancing user experience.

Here is all you need to know about the devices that were launched alongside the Pixel phones. 

Pixel Watch 4

The latest smartwatch in the Pixel series – Pixel Watch 4 – features the first-ever Google Actua 360 display with 10 per cent more active area and 16 per cent smaller bezels. The smartwatch is 50 per cent brighter compared to its predecessor and gets a 3000-nit display. It is backed by the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 and an ML-powered co-processor. For the first time, the Pixel Watch is a serviceable device where the display and battery can be replaced. The Pixel Watch 4 starts at $349.

With brighter colours, striking clock faces, and more readable user interfaces, Material 3 Expressive gives the watch display life and makes it even more vibrant. Every encounter with Gemini is made even more enjoyable by an updated bespoke speaker and a new custom haptic engine that is 15 per cent stronger. The watch can also track a user’s sleep, monitor their temperature, offer real-time bike stats, provide personalised automatic tracking and offer new exercise options. It also features an AI health coach built with Gemini and provides a fitness and sleeping coach.

The watch features 30 hours of battery life on its 41 mm watch and 40 hours on the 45 mm watch. With battery saver mode on, the Pixel watches can last for two or three days, respectively. The Pixel Watch dock can charge the watch up to 50 per cent in 15 minutes. Google claims that the first smartwatch with independent satellite connectivity for emergencies is the Pixel Watch 4 LTE. When the user is off the grid, the watch can connect them to emergency services via a network of geostationary satellites, sending assistance to their exact location.

Pixel Buds Pro 2

At the Google event, Pixel Buds Pro 2 buds got upgraded with some new features, including a tone to the case to help users locate their buds. These wireless buds also get active noise cancellation (ANC) and transparency mode with active in-ear pressure relief. Pro 2 gets three microphones, a motion-detecting accelerometer, and a gyroscope to help users accept incoming calls or dismiss them by simply nodding or shaking their heads. It is powered by a Tensor A1 chipset.

They are also compatible with the PixelSnap. The device features a listening time of 12 hours and 48 hours with the case. When the ANC is turned off, and with the AWS on, they can listen to uninterrupted music for up to eight hours and 30 hours with the charging case. The device will be available in five colourways, such as Porcelain, Iris, Hazel, Wintergreen, Peony, and Moonstone. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 will be priced at$229.

Pixel Buds 2a

The Pixel Buds 2a are yet another addition to Google’s lineup of truly wireless earbuds. It is powered by Google’s Tensor A1 chip, allowing hands-free access to Gemini. The Buds 2a come integrated with ANC to provide users with a great listening experience. Google also claims that with ANC on, the buds get seven hours of listening time and 20 hours with the charging case. And with the ANC off, the device can run for 10 hours and 27 hours with the case. And with a charging time of just 5 minutes, the buds can last up to one hour with ANC. The case also features FindHub to help users locate their buds if they go missing.

The device features two microphones for crystal-clear calls and instructions and a touch control sensor for music control and more functions. The buds are water- and sweat-resistant with an IP54 rating and provide active in-ear pressure relief. The device will be available in two colours and will be priced at $129.
