Sharmila Tagore married cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi (Tiger Pataudi) when she was just 24 and at the peak of their career. Since theirs was an inter-faith wedding, it faced immense objection at that point in time. So much so, that they were also getting death threats as once admitted by the ‘Amar Prem’ actress. Sharmila and Tiger Pataudi became parents to three children – Saif Ali Khan, Soha and Saba Ali Patuadi. In a recent interview, Soha has opened up on the successful marriage of her parents when it’s so difficult to be in a monogamous, long-term relationship. She revealed how it’s inspiring how her parents despite being in their respective careers managed to keep their marriage strong and that’s quite difficult in today’s day and age. Speaking with Radio Nasha Official, Soha revealed the advice her mother often gives her, which is to remain connected with the larger family. “People are starting to lose touch with their relatives in modern society,” she noted, echoing Sharmila’s concern. Soha further opened up about the most impactful relationship lesson from her mother. “She managed to stay in a marriage till my father passed away and I think being in a monogamous, long-term relationship is very challenging, especially today,” she said. She also spoke about the advice given to her by her mother for a successful marriage. She said, “Don’t offend a man’s ego and don’t offend a woman’s emotions.” When Sharmila Tagore married Tiger Pataudi, she didn’t step back from her career, unlike many of her contemporaries. Even after having three children, she continued acting and, in fact, was the family’s main breadwinner at a time when cricketers earned little.
