The MacBook Pro is known to offer Apple’s best hardware and an all-day battery life, and it looks like the upcoming iteration of the laptop might feature some significant hardware upgrades.
According to a new report by Digitimes citing market research firm Omdia, Apple is thinking of switching from its current generation of mini-LED screen panels to OLED panels for its upcoming MacBook Pro model, which is slated to come out sometime next year.
If true, it will mean that the upcoming MacBook Pro may potentially be brighter, have a higher contrast ratio and vibrant colours, all while consuming less power. The switch to an OLED screen will be accompanied by a design overhaul, with Apple focusing on making the upcoming device its thinnest MacBook Pro ever.
The publication also quotes a senior analyst for display at Omdia, who has claimed that the Cupertino-based tech giant will be replacing the webcam notch in favour of an iPhone-like Dynamic Island, which may be used to display things like timers or notifications.
Apart from the above-mentioned upgrades, Apple’s 2026 MacBook Pros will also sport the much-rumoured M6 and M6 Pro chipsets, which are said to be much faster than the company’s current generation chips. Apple analyst Mark Gurman had previously said that the Cupertino-based tech giant had initially planned to bring the redesigned Macs sometime this year, but later delayed the launch because of OLED supply constraints.
In the meantime, speculations also suggest that Apple is planning to launch the M5-powered MacBook sometime in October. While this laptop won’t sport a new design, it will be powered by the company’s M5 series chips, which are said to be based on TSMC’s 3nm technology.
As for iPads, a report by the Korean media outlet Dealsite suggests that the Chinese display maker BOE is aggressively trying to enter Apple’s iPad OLED supply chain by working on its eighth-generation OLED screen.
