Air purifier sales climb 30% with Delhi-NCR topping the chart, new study shows | Technology News


It is just not the AQI levels that went up this winter. The insufferable air pollution in India also resulted in the staggering sales of air purifiers. A report by leading electronic retailer Croma revealed that the demand for air purifiers climbed to 30 per cent year-on-year. 

The retailer from Tata Group on Thursday, December 4, revealed insights on air purifier purchases based on its sales in 225 across its online and offline channels. The report revealed that Delhi NCR accounted for about 72 per cent of all air purifier sales at Croma. This indicates the region’s response to the pressing air quality challenges. Maharashtra came second with 12 per cent; Karnataka contributed around four per cent. 

“Air purifiers are no longer viewed as niche or seasonal products; they’ve become an essential year-round necessity, especially for customers in cities like Delhi NCR,” said a spokesperson. 

The spokesperson added that Croma’s core objective is to guide customers in choosing the right purifier based on room size, budget, and health needs, while ensuring they have access to advanced technology and designs that fit seamlessly into their homes.

When it comes to features, HEPA filters continue to be a top choice for consumers. This is owing to their proven ability to remove airborne particles such as dust, pollen, and mould. According to the report, many consumers preferred advanced models that ensured multi-layered protection through a combination of pre-filters, activated carbon filters, and UVC LED technology for comprehensive defence against pollutants and odours. White colour is the most purchased colour, with 77 per cent of air purifiers sold across India being in white, while 19 per cent are black and four per cent are in metallic shades. 

When it comes to the budget range, the study showed that Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 is the largest segment by volume, contributing 49 per cent of total air purifier sales at Croma. On the other hand, the super-premium is the next big category with 36 per cent contribution, indicating that more customers are ready to invest in higher-end products with better coverage and smarter features. In terms of brands, Philips and Dyson accounted for the largest share, with 84 per cent of overall air purifier sales at Croma in 2025. 

Moreover, Croma recorded its highest weekly air purifier sales in a single week alone, accounting for 27 per cent of the company’s annual air purifier sales. Compared to 2024, this year saw a hike of 30 per cent in the purchase of air purifiers. The study also shows how consumers are responding to visible pollution alerts, changing weather, and news around air quality by quickly upgrading their homes with air purifiers. Further, the report also revealed that 12 per cent of customers opted for Croma’s ZipCare plans, adding to the extended warranty and service support for long-term performances.
